McWhannel, John Douglas, born July 8, 1915 in Brandon, MB, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on November 4, 2010 in Delta.

Doug is survived by his Beloved wife Eleanor; son Tony (Michelle); grandchildren Sam and Pierre as well as sister, Vi, of Vernon who found great comfort in spending time with her brother prior to his passing. Doug will also be fondly remembered by his nieces Judy and Lynn and their families; sister-in-law Catherine (David James) and family as well as extended family members and many dear friends.

Doug was a WWII RCAF pilot, Oxford scholar, teacher, and UBC professor, who dedicated his life to education and those he loved. He will forever be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Doug's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday November 13, 2010, in the Fellowship Hall at the South Delta Baptist Church, 1988-56th Street.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Doug's memory may be made to the Rotary Club of Tsawwassen, P.O. Box 1405, Delta, B.C., V4M 3Y8.
