William Kelvin “Kelly”, Major (Retired) - It is with great sadness that we announce that William Kelvin (Kelly) O’Neill, age 66, passed peacefully at the Ottawa General Hospital on Monday, October 25, 2010, with his loving family by his side. Respected and honored in the Canadian Air Force for 35 years, retired in 1995, extended service as a consultant for 14 years. Kelly was a respected man, loving and beloved husband, devoted father and cherished grandfather, loyal and loving son, brother and a fondly respected Uncle. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 43 years, Karen (Atkinson); son, Kelvin (Kylia); grandsons, Kelsy and Kyle, who loved and adored him. Kelly is survived by his sister, Rose Marie (George Menassas), brothers, John (Linda), Joseph (Janet), and Peter (Sandra); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Patrick Joseph Joe and Marie (Brownson) O’Neill; brothers, Thomas, Harold (Judy), Francis (Pansy); and sisters, Mary (the late John Brennen), Jane (the late Wilfred Bedore). Kelly was a man so strong in his love of life and family and will be best remembered for the fine example he set for us to live by. It is so difficult to say good-bye as we long to have those precious moments we have spent together last forever. We, the family, wish to express sincere appreciation for the excellent care and compassion provided by the dedicated staff of the palliative care and oncology units at the Ottawa General Hospital. A greeting of family and friends was held on Saturday, October 30 prior to a Mass in Memory of Kelly at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Marmora, ON. Interment was in the Parish Cemetery. In memory of Kelly and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation or a charity of one’s choice.
