The death of Bennett "Ben" John Perry, loving husband of Janet (Preston) Perry, occurred on Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010, at the Church of St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home in Saint John, N.B. Born 1924 in Piusville, P.E.I., he was the son of the late Frank and Celina (Brown) Perry. Ben worked for the General Hospital and Saint John Regional Hospital as an orthopedic technologist until his retirement in 1989. He lived in Saint John since 1953 and was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church. Ben was a kind, caring, considerate man who enjoyed clogging and country music. He played many instruments and enjoyed writing and singing songs he wrote for his wife Janet. He loved telling old stories, always had a joke to tell, and Ben and Janet spent many wonderful summers at their cottage in Mill River East. Besides his wife Janet, he is survived by one daughter, Miss Sharon Perry of Belmont; one son, Douglas (Nancy) Perry of Martinon; grandchildren Kevin and Nicholas; one brother, William (Dora) Perry of Alberton; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother Joseph Perry, sisters Maria McCormick, Lauretta and Helen Perry and infant granddaughter Nicole Perry. Following cremation, visitation will be held at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmoreland Rd., Saint John (646-2424) on Friday, Nov. 19, from 3 to 8 p.m. A memorial mass will be held from St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Bloomfield, on Saturday, Nov. 20 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of the donor's choice.
