Zelda Mary Shannon of Saint John West, wife of the late Ronald Murdoch Shannon, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, January 02, 2011 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Saint John on May 19, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Natalie (Bourque) Gogan. Zelda worked at the Dominion Store on King Square for more than 20 years. She attended St. Rose de Lima Church and most recently Our Lady of the Assumption Church. She was the family's sports fan, who especially liked to watch them play hockey, golf, and badminton, but she will be mostly remembered for the unconditional love, support and encouragement she gave to all her family, who were always in her thoughts and prayers.
Zelda is survived by her children, Robert "Bob" Shannon (Bobbi) of Rothesay, JoAnne Wiggins (Lyle) of Saint John, and Richard "Rick" Shannon (Brenda) of Saint John; grandchildren Kelly Poirier (Clarence), Scott Shannon (Alicia), and Ryan Shannon (Shelley); great grandchildren Jena, Jocelyn, Clayton, and Alexis; a sister, Mary Murphy of Saint John; a brother, Albert Gogan (Laurette) of Saint John; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and to her parents, Zelda was predeceased by brothers Ernest, William, Frank, Henry, Edmund, Leo, and Edgar; and by sisters Lena Perry, Elizabeth, and Dorothy.
The family would like to extend thanks to Dr. Donald Craig, as well as the Doctors and Staff of the Saint John Regional Hospital who always took such good care of Zelda over the years.
Resting at Brenan's Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John West (634-7425), with visiting on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 12:00 Noon from Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or to any charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
