Sweeney, Dorothy Helen ("Dot") - With deepest sadness, the death of our mother occurred on January 4, 2011 at the Dartmouth General Hospital, with her daughter by her side, with great courage, strength, and a positive attitude throughout her illness. She was born on September 30, 1928, was baptized at Holy Trinity Church, and married James William Sweeney at Holy Trinity Church in 1948. She raised three beautiful children, who she loved dearly. She was a member of the Holy Trinity CWL for many years, and was one of the founders of the Holy Trinity Kindergarten program, as well as a member of the Legion of Mary, which she enjoyed very much. She enjoyed life to the fullest, and was so very proud of her children and grandchildren. Dot loved walking, bingo, and in her younger days, skating and dancing. Dot moved to Halifax in 2003 to be with her daughter. She is survived by her son Gerald Sweeney, daughter Sharon Sweeney, grandsons Bradley Sweeney (Michelle), Ross Sweeney, brother Gordon, several nieces and one nephew. Dot was predeceased by her parents, husband James, son Jimmy, daughter in law Cathy Sweeney, and her sister Virginia Berge.
Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). At Dot's request, there will be no formal visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Holy Trinity Church, Rockland Road, on Monday, January 10th at 12:00 noon. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
