Joseph Michael MacKinnon

Date de naissance : 29 novembre 1938

Date de décès : 27 mai 2017

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our father, Joseph Michael MacKinnon, age 78, of North Sydney on Saturday, May 27, 2017.
Born November 29, 1938 he was a lifelong resident of North Sydney, and was the son of the late Joseph and Sarah (MacNeil) MacKinnon. He had a wide variety of jobs throughout his life. In the early 60’s he served with the Black Watch Second Battalion. He later worked at the post office and for Martell’s Construction Company. For a number of years he ran a TV repair business and for a short time was a wedding photographer.
He was a devout Catholic and was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney. He would never miss Mass, and on more than one occasion walked in a winter storm to discover Mass had been cancelled due to the weather conditions.
He was a loyal and patient husband to our mother. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 3 of this year. He was an incredible and warm hearted father who instilled in his children the importance of family. He was a lifelong learner, always reading and learning new skills. He taught himself how to use a computer and programs such as Photoshop. He would figure out how to build or fix anything including our family home.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, hiking and cross country skiing. He liked to challenge himself physically. As a young man he was known to run from his home in North Sydney to Christy’s beach, swim across the lake, swim back and run home.
He is survived by his wife, Diane (Baudoux); his children, Michael (Rhonda), Bedford, Michele (Kevin), Lunenburg, Jennifer, Sydney and Jodi (Wally), Cole Harbour; his grandchildren, Emma, Tyler and Luke; his half-sister, Fanny Prince, North Sydney.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Michael and Roddie; sister, Jessie; half-brothers, John, Earl, George, Jim, Barney, and half-sisters, Jose, Blanche, Edna, Sadie, Evelyn, Mary, Mamie and Chris.
Visitation for Joe will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at St. Joseph Church, Archibald Avenue with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the North Sydney Food Bank, St. Joseph Church Improvement Fund or the Northside General Foundation Wig Program. Online condolences may be sent to www.wjdooley.com.
“Dad you will be sadly missed but the many fond memories will live in our hearts forever.
Rest in Peace.”
