Richard Hallett McGill, age 66, of Windsor/Newport Corner, Hants County. The family were saddened to announce the passing of their brother, Richard, on Thursday, June 22, 2017, at the Hants Community Hospital, with his family by his side. Born on June 28, 1950, in Lake Pleasant, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, Richard was the son of the late Theodore Llewelyn and Stella Alfreda (Best) McGill. Richard attended school at Hants West Rural High School, having graduated with a grade 12 commercial. He worked at Avard Salter’s Service Station, Brooklyn for a number of years. Richard was a member of the Windsor Baptist Church, and was known for distributing weekly bulletins to those in local nursing homes. He was active in the church choir, the Newport Male Choir and was an assistant church caretaker. Richard was a handyman and assisted many elderly homeowners with their property maintences, also including Taxi services. Richard is survived by his sisters, Effie Mailman, Lockhartville; Florence (John) MacDonald, Windsor; Carolyn (Garnet) Connors, Brooklyn; brothers, Chester (Stella), Mount Albert, Ont.; Kenneth (Elizabeth), New Minas; several nieces and nephews. Besides his father, Theodore (1975) and his mother, Stella (2010); he was predeceased by brother-in-law, Merle Mailman (2016). Visitation was held 6-9 p.m. Sunday, June 25, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, P.O. Box 2218, Windsor, NS, B0N 2T0. Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Monday, June 26, 2017, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Rob Heffernan, Rev. Marlene Knowles and Rev. Clarence Bungay officiating, followed by a reception in the Lindsay Windsor Funeral Home. Interment in the Ste. Croix Cemetery, Cemetery Road, St. Croix. The family wish to express a sincere thank you to the staff of Dykeland Lodge for the care and compassion for Richard during his stay there and also a special thanks to the emergency staff at Hants Community Hospital.
