JOHN FOLMER
1946 – 2017

The family of John Albert Folmer wishes to announce his peaceful passing at his Steep Creek home on Tuesday, June 27, 2017. John was born in Prince Albert, SK on Tuesday, January 8, 1946. He was the third or fourth child of Kate and Henry Folmer, depending on who you talked to. John spent his life on the family farm in Steep Creek until he met the love of his life and moved all the way across the road. John and Ellen built their family home and farm the land in their early years. John always loved to keep active in the farming lifestyle, but feeling the need to keep an eye on his growing daughters, he began driving school bus for Saskatchewan Rivers School Division when Tena started kindergarten, and continued until Helaina graduated in 1998. He was always up for a challenge and decided that he wanted to complete his high school diploma before his girls and got his GED the same year. After that he wrote his 1A license exam and drove truck for the rest of his career. John was predeceased by his parents, Kate and Henry; his in-laws, Hector, Morna and Jack; and his brothers-in-aw, Danny and Dieter. He leaves behind his wife and best friend, Ellen; his four daughters, Tena (George), Dieda (Jason), Morna (Brad) and Helaina (Chris); his 11 grandchildren and 8 step-grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and his siblings; as well as many nieces and nephews. John’s funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at Calvary United Church in Prince Albert, SK, Pastor Tony Thompson officiating. Interment to follow at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of River Park Funeral Home, Don Moriarty, Funeral Director.
