Holt, Janet Olga Isabel 56, passed away in Halifax, Nova Scotia on June 26, 2017. Born in Liverpool, Nova Scotia, she spent a happy childhood with her family and friends. Following high school, she graduated from Acadia University with a major in Classics. She was gifted in languages, music and art, and was known for her logical mind and quick wit. Like her mother Anne Holt, she attracted new friends easily and was compassionate and empathetic. Janet loved nature and animals, particularly her dogs Johnny, Gandalf and Sammy. Janet loved to travel. She lived in Spain and France and visited her Aunt Carla Furlong in Newfoundland and her Abrahamsen relatives in Norway. She settled in the Halifax Metro area and spent her last 11 years at Haven Manor on Coburg Road where she was surrounded by kind and loving people. She and her special friend Larry Vincent enjoyed the city and had many friends in the South End. She volunteered at the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax. She was predeceased by her father Leif Holt and her mother Anne (Emerson) Holt. She is missed by her brother David (Donna) Holt, Waverley, NS; sister Linda Fairchild, San Francisco, CA; her uncle Theodor Abrahamsen and family, Norway and Sweden; her Aunt Carla Furlong and family, St. John’s, NL; her niece Claire (Nathan King) Holt, Halifax, NS; nephew Benjamin Holt, Denton, TX; and cousins in Ontario. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Wednesday July 5 in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Road, Halifax. Special thanks to staff and friends at Haven Manor.
