Frederick Allan Hewett
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Al Hewett on June 24th 2017, in North Vancouver. Predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years, Jean. Survived by their four children, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; Allan (Lynne) Devin; Kim (Paul) Trevor, Justin; Laurie (Chris) Kyle, Ashley (Greg) Greyson, Abigail; Adrienne, Karlee.
Al was born in Hudson Bay Junction to Fred and Jean Hewett. Moving at a young age to Prince Albert, where Evelyn and Ross joined and rounded out the family. Al had big dreams and started his career in radio broadcasting that initially took him to Swift Current, where he met his love Jean and they married. School beckoned and he found New Orleans’ Tulane U offered what he was seeking and what a time to be young and exploring the burgeoning jazz music scene and the life of a bustling metropolitan of the late 50s. Al was a man that wore many hats, travelled to many places and found joy and happiness with all people. Spending warm sunny days at Emma Lake or working the back nine of the Cooke municipal or Waskesui courses, all were big parts of his early years. With a profession in HR management and with stops at working mines in Lanigan, Britannia Beach, Fernie and Fort Mac, eventually making his way back to the West Coast where he made North and West Vancouver home for the last 38 years. The cabin in Birch Bay Village was their getaway; with Al and Jean spending as much time as they could enjoying the peace and tranquility. Always in for a good time with close friends and family, he kept his stories fresh and tales long and relevant. He always had the time to listen and mentor and will be a person that will remain in the hearts and minds of the many that he touched. He will be truly missed.
