New Glasgow: C. Mae Johnstone, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mae Johnstone, age 93 of New Glasgow; a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt.
Mae was born in Iron Ore, Pictou County, the daughter of the late John D. and Chris (Fraser) Sharpe.
Mae was employed with Glen Haven Manor until her retirement .
She was a member of Trinity United Church and was involved with several groups and organizations such as: the New Glasgow Legion Choir, Mae and the Boys, Pictou County Ukulele Group, Singers of Praise Choir, Club 55+, Shepherds Lunch Room, Unit C at Trinity, Bible Study and volunteering for the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, to name a few. She was also known for happily playing hymns and old time favourites for residents at several senior complexes.
Mae is survived by daughters: Joyce Greene of New Glasgow; Joan Kingham of New Glasgow; sons Richard (Karen) Johnstone of, Naniamo ,B.C.; Robert (Jake) (Arlene) Johnstone of New Glasgow; brother Fraser Sharpe of Ontario; grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mae was a very special grandmother to Brenda (Ken) MacNutt and will be dearly missed.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Chalmers; sons-in-law Keith Greene and George Kingham.
Her remains will rest in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home for visitation from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. on Thursday. Funeral service will be held from Trinity United Church on Friday at 11 A.M. with Rev. Donna Tourneur officiating, a reception to follow in the church hall. Burial will be in the Bridgeville Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Mae can be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital or to a charity of one’s choice.
Mae’s greatest joys in her life was her faith, her family and playing the piano. She was loved by all.
