PAYN, Gloria Juanita – age 87 of the Villa St. Joseph du Lac passed away on August 30, 2017 at Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia on July 27, 1930 she was the daughter of the late Charles and Annie (Cann) Sweet. Gloria was a telephone operator and held several administrative positions at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital during her working career. In her younger years she played hockey and was known to be quite skilled. She was a fantastic cook, and made the best apple pie. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, great grandmother who loved her family dearly and had great faith and love in the Lord throughout life every day. She is survived by daughter, Margaret Ann Anderson of Yarmouth; Kathryn (Gerald) Gray of Overton; Raymond Payn of Yarmouth; William “Bill” (Jill) Payn of Gander, NFLD; brother, Raymond (Betty) Sweet of Bobcaygeon, ON; sister, Eileen Taylor of Sydney, NS; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Besides her parents, Gloria was predeceased by a daughter Nancy LeBlanc; brother, Douglas Sweet; sisters, Lydia Steele, Mary Davey and Edith Bower. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home and Crematorium. No visitation by family request. Funeral service took place Sunday September 3, 2017 at 2:00 pm from Sweeny's Funeral Chapel, Pastor Tim Turpin officiated. Burial will take place at a later date in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery. A reception followed the funeral service at Holy Trinity Anglican Church Hall, 61 William Street, Yarmouth. In lieu of flowers donations in memory may be made to the Tri County Victorian Order of Nurses or the Friends of Gilles Boudreau Cancer Help Fund.
