It is with heavy hearts that the family of Douglas Seymour Thompson age 91, announce his passing on Monday, September 4, 2017 at the Abbie J. Lane Memorial at QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax, NS.
Born in East Amherst on May 11, 1926, he was the son of the late Seymour & Alberta (Polley) Thompson.
In his early years he worked for Maritime Lumber and later retired from the Dept. of Transportation.
He enjoyed spending time at the hunting camps and working on special projects with his son in law Jim with whom he had a special relationship. Doug also loved to plant a vegetable garden that flourished every year. He was a member of Knights of Pythias holding many offices over the years.
Doug will be lovingly remembered & sadly missed by all that knew him, his smile was his greatest asset.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years Goldie (Tattrie). Daughters: Diane (Archie) McFayden, Charlottetown, Judy (Eric) Black, Amherst, Thelma (John) Anderson, Dartmouth, Linda (Jim) Long, Amherst. Sons: Douglas, Amherst, Kenny, Ottawa; 8 grandchildren & 10 great grandchildren. Sisters: Betty (Al) Orr, Lower Sackville, NS, Shirley Goodwin, Burlington, ON. Brothers: Cecil (Peggy) Smith’s Falls, ON Gary (Dianne), Dartmouth, NS.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother Ronnie & sisters Doreen Meisner & Barb Hachey.
A celebration of Doug’s life will take place at Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (902-667-9906) on Friday, September 8, 2017 between the hours of 2:00 – 4:00 pm
Donations in Doug’s memory may be made to the First Baptist Church, Salvation Army or charity of your choice.
