Surrounded by her family, Beverly 74, passed to Eternal Life on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney.
Married to Edward C. Melnick, she was the daughter of the late John P. and Olive (Aucoin) MacKenzie.
She is survived by her husband, Edward; her son, the Rev. Fr. John Melnick of the Augustinian Fathers in Kansas City and by her sister, Cecilia MacLean of Sydney.
Beverly was a lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph Parish, Reserve Mines. She worked for many years in retail at Gallay's in Glace Bay and Maloney's in Sydney.
Aside from her parents, she is predeceased by her brothers, John, Andrew, Thomas MacKenzie and Joseph Poirier; also sisters, Sr. Irene Poirier, SC, Sr. Cecilia Poirier, SC, Carmelita Lownds and Mary Hayden.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 11, 2017 from 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph's Church, Reserve Mines on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 11 a.m. with her son, Fr. John Melnick and Fr. Dan Boudreau officiating. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery, MacLeod’s Crossing.
As an expression of sympathy for Beverly, donations in her memory may be made to St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines.
