CHALLONER, K. Eugene “Gene” – age 80, The Meadows Home for Special Care, Yarmouth, formerly of Deerfield, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 9, 2017 in the home. Born April 9, 1937 in Deerfield, he was a son of the late Ruby Mae Challoner and a step-son of the late Joseph Bradford Kenney. Gene worked as a stevedore in Ontario for ten years, after which he returned to Yarmouth and worked as a fish processor at Kennebec Fisheries and as a taxi driver. In his spare time, he loved working on old cars. He is survived by his loving wife, Helen (Taylor) Challoner; his first wife, Mary (Crosby), Salmon River; children, Kenneth (Erin) Challoner, Springhaven; Jeffery Challoner, Red Deer, AB; Crystal Challoner, Port Maitland; step-children, Joanne Taylor and Bev Wallace, both of Yarmouth; Jeannie Wallace, Drumheller, AB; Marjorie Blades, Deerfield; Blaine (Kelly) Smith, Raynardton; a daughter-in-law, Kathy McGibbon, Ontario; 11 grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren, as well as several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Aside from his mother and step-father, he was predeceased by a son, Ricky Challoner. Visitation took place from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m., Thursday, September 14, both at H.M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth, Rev. A.D. (Bill) Newell officiated. Interment followed in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. It was requested that there be family flowers only.
