It is with heavy hearts we announce the loss of our mother, grandmother, aunt, and loving sister, Ann Doreen (Barrie) Cuzner, who passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Doreen was born in Sydney Mines on January 17, 1942, the daughter of the late George Barrie and Hannah (Cluett) Barrie.
She was a loving mother to Valerie, Melvin, and David (Sarah). She was also grandmother to Ethan and Abigail Cuzner, Kriselle and Joshua Devoe, and a great-grandchild, Riley, all of whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by her five sisters, June (Jim) Winterfield, Sandra (Henry) Snow, Rhoda (Dave) DeMars, Norma Barrie, Isabell (Donnie) Gouthro, and her three brothers, Blair (Ann) Barrie, Dale (Bonita) Barrie, and Jake (Kim) Barrie; along with many loving nieces and nephews.
Doreen was a hard worker who held many jobs over her lifetime. She loved spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed dancing, bingo, playing cards, and a good game of scrabble. She was taken care of at home by her family until getting a placement at the Northside Community Guest Home.
Besides her parents, Doreen was predeceased by her loving husband, Dave Cuzner; sisters, Caroline (Aulden) LeBlanc, Elaine (Paddy) Jessome; brothers, Howard (Gloria) Barrie, and George Barrie Junior. She is also predeceased by two of her grandchildren, twins, Olivia and Emily Cuzner.
We the family would like to thank the staffs of the Northside Home Makers, the Northside Community Guest Home, also the doctors and nurses at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for all of the services and care that you have provided.
Complying with Doreen’s wishes she has been cremated and there will be no wake or burial service. However there will be a celebration of her life being held at the family residence 274 Atlantic St., Sydney Mines, Sunday, Oct.1, from 2-5 p.m. We ask all family and friends who have known her to come join us as we gather together to remember the good times and joy she brought to our lives.
Words of comfort may forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
As we watched your struggle, our hearts were crushed and sore.
Doing our best until the end, we could do no more.
In tears we seen you sinking and watched you fade away,
Although our hearts were breaking, we knew you could not stay.
