She came to Canada as a War Bride on the Acquitania on March 2, 1946, having married a RCAF hurricane pilot, Earl Baker. Win was predeceased by her husband of 59 years; their son Andrew (Elsa); sisters Margaret “Peg”, Brenda, Joyce and Laurie. Survived by sons, Michael (Karen), Kamloops, BC; Gary, Brantford, Ontario; Larry (Nicole), Lakeview, NS; Timothy, Surrey, BC; Brent (Manon) Fredericton, NB; daughter, Jan (George) Delta, BC; fourteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; sister Ronda (Vernon Baker) Victoria, BC; sister-in-law Marion Chute (Harold),Orono, Maine and many nieces and nephews. Battery, R.A. in the London area. In later years she was very active in The Order of the Eastern Star and was very honoured to be named Chapter Mom. The War Brides Association was a great part of Win’s life and she made very dear and supportive friends with the girls and their grown children. The V.O.N. and the clients at the Adult Day Programme were a source of great happiness as were the A.C.W. birthday luncheons. Win was always grateful for her family and many other blessings and believed implicitly that keeping a sense of humour got a person through the hard spots. England would always have a place in her heart and during her 70 years living in Canada she became a true and very patriotic Canadian. The family wishes to express their utmost sincere thanks to the staff at Northwood Manor in Halifax, the first responders and staff at QEII, Halifax and especially to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor who went beyond their mandate and made our mother’s final days as peaceful and comfortable as possible.
