With sadness, we regret to announce the passing of Gloria Kathleen “Jackie” Wilson on Thursday, October 5, 2017, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney.
Born April 22, 1928, in Shaunavon, Sask., Jackie was the daughter of the late Ambrose and Armour (MacVay) Higgs.
She is survived by her daughter, Melanie (Greg) MacLeod; sister, Olive Tetford; grandchildren, Lyndon & Taylor (Cody) MacLeod, Joel, Justin (Brandee) and Joshua Wilson, great-grandchildren, Sophia & Wyatt Wilson; daughter-in-law, Julia Wilson-Butler; she is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Jackie was predeceased by her husband, Melrose; son, Garth; sisters, Pauline Collier, Frances Reeves and Corinne Urquhart.
Besides her longtime love of 68 years "Mel" she loved her family and had a very close bond with all her grandchildren as well as her nieces and nephews. As soon as the frost was out of the ground you could find Jackie in her garden. But not before she put a full load of clothes on "the line." If there was a party - she was there. Mom loved to have fun and laugh, she was known for her laugh. In their early dating years Mom and Dad spent their time skating, dancing, biking and having fun in Mira with all her sisters and the kids. Once they started their family, they spent summers at Ben Eoin Beach Campground and some winter months in Florida with friends and family. A true lady, who loved to dress up and never forgot her earrings, she was very giving, as well as devoted to her family, friends and above all her faith. She had a rich life with all her travels and family experiences. Mom had many friends who were like extended family. We would like to thank the staff of Irish Cove, where Mom resided for the last three and half years, a huge thank you for making Mom feel at home and taking extra special care of her. Thank you to Dr. Stephen Hall and Dr. Yvonne Libbus for being there when most needed.
Funeral service will be held at the Kingdom Hall, Alexander St. on Sunday October 15, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. with Mr. Richard Volkes officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or Cancer Treatment Center at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Words of comfort can be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca.
