Charles Joseph 'Chas' Campbell

Charles Joseph 'Chas' Campbell

Lieu de naissance : Sydney, Nouvelle Ecosse

Date de décès : 12 octobre 2017

Charles Joseph “Chas” Campbell, 88, of Sydney passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving children on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017.
Born in Sydney in 1929, Chas was one of 17 children born to the late John Michael and Margaret (Dwyer) Campbell.
Chas was a long time employee of Sydney Steel where he worked in the electrical department. Following “Big Timber’s” retirement from ‘the plant’, Chas, to his great delight, worked with his wife, Minnie, and together they owned and operated retail lighting and giftware stores.
Throughout their long and wonderful life together, Chas and Minnie were able to enjoy travel far and wide. In their retirement years they especially enjoyed leisure and travel in their RV, which allowed them to visit and host numerous friends and family members. Chas for many years was an active member of Our Lady of Fatima parish in Sydney River. Throughout his life Chas also volunteered his time to charitable and community activities ranging from youth athletic programs to the provision of safe water for underserviced communities.
Chas’s greatest pleasure came from his involvement with his family. In his own sublet way Chas was particularly in tune with, available, and generous to anyone who might be in need of a little extra attention. Those who had the pleasure of knowing Chas might recognize that he was a pleasant and caring individual but there was no missing the fact that he was a very, very humorous man. Humour was simply imbedded in his character and culture. He has left behind an endless amount of hilarious stories and honourable examples to draw from. Together with Minnie, Chas was an appreciated source of fun, love, and support to his children, family, and friends.
Chas’s passing will leave a void in the lives and hearts of his many family members and friends. Chas was predeceased by his above-mentioned parents; his loving wife, Mary “Minnie;” and his siblings, Cyril, Jack, Bob, Michael, Ethel, Sally, Agnes, Mary, Dewey, and Francis.
Chas leaves behind his siblings, Keady Morrison, Regis Wheatley, Nora Aucoin (Gordy), Lois Haaheim (Donald), Catherine Clutterham (Donald), and Carmel Kehler (Bill); his children, John (Carrie), Doug (Debbie), Charlie (Ellen), Leanna MacDonald (Ritchie); his grandchildren, Cassie, Martha, Cameron, Caylah, Daniel, Anna, Mairi, Emma, Ryan, Patrick, Kenzie, Jonathan, Liam, Jordan, Camden; and great-grandchildren, Dylan, Lily, Hannah.
Chas’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all of the staff of the Cape Breton Metro chapter of the VON and the Palliative Care services. It was a great comfort to Chas and family to be assured of an exceptional level of professional care, support and respect.
Visitation for Mr. Campbell will take place at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George St. on Sunday, Oct.15, 2017 from 2-4 & 7 -9 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Sydney River on Monday, Oct. 16th at 11 a.m. with Fr. Duaine Devereaux officiating with a reception to follow.
Memorial donations in Chas’s memory may be made to the Cape Breton Metro Branch of the Victoria Order of Nurses (VON) and the Hospice Palliative Care Society of CB County.
