Allan Reid Fraser

Allan Reid Fraser

Allan Reid Fraser - 80, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 12, 2017 in the Palliative Care Unit of Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.

Allan was very involved in his children’s lives - Duke of Edinburgh Award program, hockey, gymnastics, trampoline, judo and other events too numerous to mention. He was his children’s favourite baseball coach and was famous for yelling “Get your body in front of the ball. It won’t go through you.” Card games of all sorts were favoured pastimes. He loved and hated the Toronto Blue Jays in equal measure.

He worked for Sun Alliance Insurance for 27 years and then as a general contractor. He loved carpentry of all types and built both homes for his family. He thought his girls should be at least as useful as they were decorative so all of them were taught to use tools and do roofing. Fortunately for everyone, he did not teach them plumbing.

Allan was predeceased by his beloved son, Gregory; father, MacGill; mother, Hazel, and sister, Caroline. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marie (Pettipas), and his four daughters: Dianne (Jeff Hoyle), Darlene (Stephen Burgess), Donna, and Denise (Vince Pye), grandsons Mitchell (Bailey Shuttleworth Cucinelli) and Luke, and his cat Gannett. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Evelyn Pettipas, who held a very special place in his heart as well as five sisters-in-law and six brothers-in-law.

Special thanks to Dr. Donald Rowe for his constant care and concern. Many of the nurses at Colchester deserve special mention: Janet, Cara, Shelley, Courtney and Isabelle. Thanks also to Father Dariusz, the Immaculate Conception Church Choir, and the CWL.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation be held on Monday, October 16 from 6-8:30pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 17 at 11am in Immaculate Conception Church, 669 Prince St., Truro, Father Dariusz Miskowicz officiating. Reception will follow in Campbell Hall. Interment in Robie Street Cemetery, Truro. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Colchester Hospice Society or a charity of your choice.
