It is with sincere sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Anita Regis (Verner) Morrison age 90, at the Highland Crest Home in Antigonish on Monday, October 16, 2017.
Born in Glace Bay, November 25, 1926 she was the daughter of the late William Emmanuel Verner and Mary (Foran) Verner.
A dedicated mother, Anita lived most of her life in Sydney River where she devoted herself to her late husband, Jimmy, and their three daughters. She was a woman of strong faith and she attended Mass regularly until the last few weeks of her life. Family was everything for Anita, and she dearly loved her four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A visit to her house always involved a cup of tea and a sampling of her famous baked treats! Mom lived a full and happy life and will be greatly missed by all.
Anita is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Morrison, Burlington, Ont., Alana (Shaun) MacDonald, Port Hastings, and Janice (Tony) Gill, Burlington, Ont.; grandchildren, Brendan MacDonald, Erin (Lance) Hawley, Steven and Emily Gill; great-grandchildren, twins, Maeve and Kenna Hawley; and many nieces and nephews.
Anita was predeceased by her husband, James Morrison; half siblings, Joe Verner and Susie Verner O’Connell; brothers, Charles Verner and Earl Verner; and sisters, Flossie MacNeil, Allie Connors, Dorothy White, Margie Verner, Mary Verner and Millie Hiltz.
Special thanks are extended to the compassionate staff of the Highland Crest Home in Antigonish who provided tremendous care for Mom over her time with them.
There will be no visitation. A celebration of life will be celebrated on Friday, October 20, at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Sydney River, with Father Duaine Devereaux officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Burial will be with her beloved Jimmy in Resurrection Cemetery.
