LAWRENCE 'LARRY' MACINTOSH

Lawrence “Larry” MacIntosh of Blackett’s Lake passed away peacefully with family by his side on Sunday, October 22, 2017, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Palliative Care Unit in Sydney.
Larry was born in 1938, the son of the late Joseph and Gertrude (Cameron) MacIntosh.
Larry was an entrepreneur who started his first business back in the late ‘50s, ‘MacIntosh Landscaping, later known as MacIntosh & Sons Landscaping. In 1962 he married Jeanette who became his lifelong partner not only in love and family but also in his life’s work. Together, Larry and his wife opened ‘Sunshine Disposal’ in ’75, a company that continues to serve Cape Breton Island today. He was known for offering everyone a large smile, even during the hard times, which gave him his nick name ‘smiley.’ Larry approached life with strength, tenacity and passion.
Larry was dearly loved by his wife, Jeanette; daughters, Joy (Andrew Final), Maria (Eric Sheppard), both of Dartmouth, Crystal (Joel MacRae), who was a daughter to Larry even though she was his granddaughter, Sydney; sons, Robb (Tena Moore), Glace Bay and Larry Jr., at home; sisters, Cathy (Duncan) Gillis, Port Hawkesbury and Margret Clare, Halifax; brothers, Fulton (Lisa), New Brunswick, Tommy (Lynn), Economy and Paul (Christine), Ontario; grandchildren, Dawsyn Moore and Devon LeBlanc; great-grandchildren, Grady and Finley MacRae. Larry came from a large family of 13 and was deceased by several sisters and brothers.
Larry will always be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather who supported his family.
There will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Church on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Duaine Devereaux officiating. There will be a reception after the mass downstairs at Lady of Fatima.
Memorials may be made to Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
We would like to take this opportunity to extend our deepest thanks to the Palliative Care team & the Hospice Society for always making sure that Larry was comfortable and at peace during his journey with cancer.
