Surrounded by her children, passed gently away at the Miller Centre, Palliative Care Unit on 23 April 2011, aged 78 yrs. Predeceased by husband William (July 2010); parents John and Florence (Payne) Compagnon and her brother Milton “Champ” (Rosanna) Compagnon. Leaving to mourn children Linda (Art) LeFeuvre and their children Arthur, Heather (Glen) Wall and great-grandson Jacob and (soon to be Matthew); Bill (Shirley) Barrett and their children Todd, Ian and Janice (Garry Jenkins) Barrett and great-granddaughters Brianna and Kayla; Robert Compagnon; The Rev’d Lieutenant (Navy) Jack (Christina) Barrett and their children Alexander and Aaron Barrett; as well as a large circle of other family and friends spread across Canada. Jackie came to Spaniard’s Bay from John’s Beach, N.L., as a young teacher. Here she met and married Willie in 1950. She established a very successful business, which they ran as Barrett’s General Store in Spaniard’s Bay for 34 years. Jackie was an active member of both the UCW and ACW as well as numerous community organizations. She thoroughly enjoyed ‘Scrabble’ and walking. She was extremely proud of her family and their many accomplishments. She was affectionately known as ‘flea-market nanny’ by one grandchild. Resting at Young’s Funeral Home Spaniard’s Bay. Visitation Monday and Tuesday 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service taking place at Holy Redeemer Anglican Church, Wednesday 2 p.m. Interment to follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Coughlan United Church, Harbour Grace, The Miller Centre Palliative Care Unit – Eastern Health or a charity of your choice. Sincere thanks to the special friends and staff at Callingwood Downs Senior’s Residence Clarke’s Beach and the Palliative Care Team at the Miller Centre.
