John Piercey 'JP' MacDonald

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Piercey “JP” MacDonald of Sydney River. The devoted family man and lifelong teacher died peacefully, at home surrounded by his loved ones, on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at the age of 67.
JP was predeceased by his loving wife of 35 years, Lynn (Barrett); mother, Georda (Piercey) MacDonald; father, John MacDonald; sister, Julie (Gordon) Kirkpatrick; sister, Mary Jane MacDonald; father-in-law, Russell Barrett and mother-in-law, Dolores (Martinello) Barrett.
He is survived by his son, Jonathan (Carla), Barrie, Ont.; his two daughters, Emily (Steve) Wadden, Sydney and Jessica MacDonald, at home; grandchildren, Joseph, Lynn, William and Logan. Also survived by his sister-in-law, Janice (Ken) Larkin, Barrie, Ont.; brother-in-law, Glenn Barrett, Barrie, Ont.; sister-in-law, Nancy (Steve) Collins, Sydney Forks; brother-in-law, Hal (Trish) Barrett, Enfield and many nieces and
nephews.
JP earned his teaching degree at St. FX University in 1975. He taught in a number of Cape Breton schools, but will always be remembered for his time at Sydney Academy — his home away from home. We, the family of JP, acknowledge and respect that our father had many friends, students and colleagues that also considered him family. We want to assure you that he felt the same way, and that he would be honoured if his legacy of hard work, encouragement and compassion could live on through you.
To JP: We promise to love each other as you have loved us. We will be there for each other as you have been there for us. Finally, we promise to laugh at good jokes and bad, and always think of you when we do.
There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 12 p.m., with Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Memorials may be made to Palliative Care. Words of comfort can be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail
