It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Ruth Annette Griffin, announce her passing on November 12, 2017.
Born July 2, 1940 and known as Ruthie to her family, she was the daughter of the late William Maxwell and Christie Walker (Maxwell).
In 1959, Ruthie and her good friends Mabel Ann Virick and Elaine Sharpe went into nurses training at the Glace Bay General Hospital. In 2003, she joined the Cape Breton Regional Hospital auxiliary and soon went on to become president in 2005.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Larry Griffin in June, and siblings, Douglas, Ella (Barret) Maxwell and Karen Maxwell.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Ann (Derek) Francis, and step-grandchildren, Dejiah Lynn, Derek Jr. and Kevin. She will be lovingly missed by her many friends and family.
Thank you to the staff at the Cove Guest Home for their compassionate care of Ruthie, as well as a special thank you to Mabel Ann and Mohen Virick for all their love and support throughout these years.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 17 from 4-6 p.m. at S.W. Chant and Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St. in Sydney. A celebration of her life will follow at 6 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Sheldon Chant to officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations in loving memory of Ruthie may be made to the Cape Breton Regional or Hospital Foundation Ladies Auxiliary.
