HOVEY, MELBA - It is with sadness that we announce the death of Melba Frances (Anderson) Hovey of Hartland, NB who, surrounded by her loving family, went to be with her Lord and Saviour on May 7, 2011 following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. She was born at home on June 12, 1935 at the Havelock, NS parsonage, the elder daughter of the late Rev. Frederick A. and Loma B. Anderson (Small). She moved with her family to : Millville, NB 1936 – 1941; Woodstock, NB 1941 – 1945; Beals Island, ME 1945 – 1950; and finally to Hartland, NB 1950 – 2011. Melba graduated from Hartland High School in 1954 and from Carleton County Vocational School in Woodstock in 1955. She was a member of the Hartland United Baptist Church and was affiliated with the Reformed Baptist Church (now known as Wesleyan). She sang in the Baptist choir for many years. She worked as secretary at J. Clark & Sons, Jerry Newman’s insurance office, and Hatfield Industries before entering the Hartland Post Office in 1966 where she worked for 38 years until her retirement in 2004. She is survived by her devoted husband Adrian Hovey of Hartland whom she married on June 12, 1957; their three beloved children: Michael Hovey (Kristine) of Miramichi, Andrea McCurdy (David) of Dartmouth, NS, and David Hovey (Anita) of Hammonds Plains, NS; six cherished grandchildren: Carolyn, Michael, Jason, Rachael, Elizabeth, and Samantha Melba; her only and very close sister, Jean Anderson Clark (Hugh Clark) of Hartland; sisters-in-law, Jane Hovey of Hartland and Sandra Winter of New Hampshire; fifteen remaining cousins of whom she was the oldest. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her sisters-in-law, Audrey Baker, Leola Hovey; brothers-in-laws, Gerald Hovey, Graydon Hovey and Ed Winter.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 9th at the Britton Funeral Home, 2 High Street, Hartland, NB from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be Tuesday, May 10th at 2:00 p.m. at the Hartland United Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Hartland. Donations can be made to Compassion Canada (Children in Haiti) or La Gonave Wesleyan Hospital Haiti. www.brittonfh.ca
