Mary Sarah (Shaw) Roper

Mary Sarah (Shaw) Roper

Date de décès : 30 décembre 2017

Mary Roper, of Ingonish, passed away peacefully at home, on December 30, 2017 in the arms of her beloved husband of 53 years, Carl Roper. Born in beautiful Loch Lomond on August 19, 1937, where a piece of her always remained, to parents William and Mary Shaw. Mary was close to her siblings and loved them dearly. Mary came to Ingonish to work in 1958 for Parks Canada, and stayed for love. Here she raised her family with kindness, patience, and an outstanding amount of love. She taught her family great strength and resilience. She was a very supportive and present mother. She was a very loving wife whose relationship with her husband remained sweet and real into their golden years. Mary had a great sense of humour. She never complained or saw the glass as half empty but rather spread her spunk and love of silliness at every opportunity. She was an avid baker, puzzle solver, card player, cross country skier and snowshoer. She loved many things in life especially spending time with family and friends and her Scottish roots. Her name will frequently be spoken in stories by her grandchildren, of the antics and shenanigans that she not only allowed but was an active participant in. She played her Johnny Cash and Newfie music loud or not at all and was always step-dancing in the kitchen, it did not matter than she did not know how.
Left to cherish her memory and continue her wonderful concept of living in the moment are, daughters, Margie (Gordon) MacKinnon, Alison (Phillip) Roper, Tracy (Shannon) Buchanan and Shauna (Roger) Robbins; grandchildren, Mathew, Shelby (Jamie), Jessica, Ashley, Makayla (Brandon), Andrew, Shannon, Mackenzie, Liam, Parker and Carli Sarah; one great grandson, Cash, who brought her many smiles and a lot of joy; sister, Helen; nieces and nephews, and sister-in-law, Hilda. Preceded by her brothers, Roddie, Allister, William and Malcolm, and sisters, Florence, Christy and Tootsie.
Special thanks to North of Smokey Homecare services, many who added extra effort and love in their care for our mother. As well as the staff at the Freshmart who went above and beyond for their frequent customers across the road. Visitation will take place Wednesday, January 3 from 12-2 p.m. at the United Church in Ingonish, service to follow at 2 p.m. with Rev Carolyn Sharpe officiating. Burial at a later date.
Family flowers only, in lieu of such you may donate to the Alzheimer’s Society or Heart and Stroke Foundation, as well we ask that you live a little of your life like Mom, in the moment, and leave no ‘I love you’ unsaid.
Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
