We regret to announce the passing of Minnie MacLean, 92, on Friday, January 5, 2018, at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in North Sydney on February 10, 1925, she was the daughter of the late J.W. and Marion (Harnem) Mulley.
Minnie was a strong and vital woman who combined her active family responsibilities with a successful working life. She was proud to retire as the housekeeping supervisor at the old Harbour View Hospital. Family members were often met by former employees who would express their high regard and respect for her.
Minnie was very well known and loved in her community. It was impossible to accompany her on an outing without meeting numerous friends and acquaintances who stopped to say hello and to enquire about her health and wellbeing. People always left Minnie’s company with a smile on their face. All her life she was a very social person who loved to be in the middle of the action. Even into her nineties she enjoyed a twirl on the dance floor.
Minnie lived most of her life in Florence and Sydney Mines. In recent years, she resided in Central Court in North Sydney, where she leaves many friends. She was an active and loyal member of Grace Fellowship Church and St. Andrews WMS. Before her illness, she was a member of Bras d’Or Senior’s and Pensioners Club.
She is survived by son, Wayne (Sheila) Mulley; daughters, Beverley (John Hugh) Edwards and Margaret (Stewart) Andrews; stepson, Alan (Sheryl) MacLean; stepdaughter, Jessie (Tom) MacNeil; stepdaughters-in-law, Glenda MacLean and Pat MacLean; and stepson-in-law, John Lytus.
Minnie will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Nancy (Enio) Liberatore, Kelli Mulley (Blaine Wilkins), Sonya (Brad) Matheson, Meaghan (Mune) Edwards-Gondo, Jillian Edwards, Laurie Andrews, Jennifer (Bevan) Ernst, Rebecca (John) Moccio, Angus Wilson (Kim) MacLean and Meghan (Stuart) MacLean-O’Donnell, Leah (Ron) Pelley, Bethan MacLean, Jillian (Darren) Barrington, and Kayla Beth MacNeil (Liam MacSween).
She is also survived by 12 loving great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Sophie Liberatore, Alexander Bachinsky, Daniel Matheson, Tait and Breton Hayden, Brielle and Bridget Ernst, Adam Moccio, Angus Wilson “Gus” MacLean, Alex Angus O’Donnell, and Callan MacSween. Minnie also leaves behind her sister, Marion “Mamie” Johnstone, and brothers, Wesley and John R. Mulley.
She was the much loved “Aunt Min” to many nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, Minnie was predeceased by husbands, Alexander “Alex” Tait and Angus MacLean; brothers, Murdock, Angus, and Bill; sisters, Ina May, Susan, and Madeline; step-daughter, Mora Lytus, and step-sons, Angus and Calvin MacLean.
Towards the end of her life, Minnie received wonderful support from Northside Homecare, the V.O.N., the nurses on 4th Floor and the staff of Ambulatory Care at the Northside General. Her family especially thanks Dr. Stephanie Langley who provided the very best of care and kindness to Minnie over the years.
Donations in Minnie’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the VON, Grace Fellowship Church, or a charity of choice.
Visitation for Minnie MacLean will be held Monday, January 8, 2018, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home Funeral, Main St., Sydney Mines.
The funeral service will take place Tuesday, at 2 p.m., in Grace Fellowship Church, with Pastor Richard Barnes officiating.
Words of comfort may be forwarded to her family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
