Date de naissance : 10 décembre 1929

Date de décès : 30 décembre 2017

Doris Sheppard (nee Goguen) passed away unexpectedly on December 30, 2017 at the Labrador Grenfell Health Centre after a brief illness; she was 88 years old. Doris is survived by: her husband George F. Sheppard; daughters Georgina Sheppard of Halifax, NS, Christina Sheppard Pike (Warwick) of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, and son Garry Sheppard (Debbie) of Marysville, ON; three grandchildren Shelly Reddy (Ben Beringer) of Edmonton, AB, twins Freeman and Elliott Sheppard of Marysville, ON; step-grandson Stephen Pike of Edmonton, AB; as well as sisters Lorraine Lussier (Maurice) of Montreal, QC, and Anita Renner of Dartmouth, NS. Doris was born December 10, 1929 in Moncton, NB to parents John (Jean Baptiste) and Exelda Goguen. She came from a large french family of nine Goguen siblings, brothers Henry, Willie, Tillman, Fred, Leo, and sisters Lena McGowan, Rita Daley, Lorraine Lussier, and Anita Renner. Doris moved to Labrador in 1952 with three of her sisters where they all met their lifelong husbands. Doris married her sweetheart George in 1953 and raised five children. Two sons predeceased her: Robert John at age 14 and Larry Thomas at age 22. Mrs. Sheppard spent 65 years in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. She and her husband owned Sheppard’s Laundry & Dry Cleaners from 1961 to 2014. Doris was devoted to her family and extended families (Daley’s, Sheppard’s, Pike’s). For the past three years, she visited the Paddon Home daily to faithfully care for her husband. Doris will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her family and friends. Doris enjoyed the great outdoors with her husband, family and friends. She loved the Labrador lifestyle, the beautiful nature the big land offered, birds, camping on Churchill Falls Road and at their cottages in Terrington Basin and Mud Lake, boating in Mud Lake and North West River, and ski-dooing in the winter. Doris lived her life to the fullest and was blessed with a good quality of life. The funeral service took place at St. Andrew's Anglican Church in Happy Valley on January 3, 2018. The family would like to thank Rev. Nellie Thomas, and Joan Andrews of St. John’s for her beautiful musical voice at the service. A special thank you to Dr. Fitzgerald, the emergency staff, and the staff at the Labrador Health Centre for their efforts and care. Donations will be graciously accepted by the Daffodil Place, St. John’s.
