Donald Charles ‘Dan Charlie’ MacDonald, 97, of Port Hood, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2018, at the Inverness Consolidated Hospital.
Born in Glencoe Mills, he was the son of the late Alex Robert and the late Christena MacDonald.
Dan Charlie is survived by his children, Elizabeth Lawrence, Judique, Catherine, Port Hood, James (Kelly), Tatamagouche, Rick (Mary), Parksville, BC, Jerome (Laurie), Dartmouth, Marie, Port Hood, Donald (Joan Beaton), Hatchett Lake, Margaret (Derek) Reid, Courtice, ON, Bernadette (Keith Christie), Creignish and Beverly (Wayne) Beaton, Edmonton, AB. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren, Tara, Jeff, Chrissie, Candice, Jason, Rory, Jimmie, Duncan, Sherry, Kim, Jennifer, Ashley, Matthew, Jacqueline, Donald and Kenneth; ten great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Dan Charlie was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Rachel (MacIsaac), and all his siblings, William, John Dan, Robert, Katie, Maggie Bell, Dan Charlie (in Infancy), John Duncan, Sarah, Mary Anne (Campbell) and Danena (MacKinnon).
Dan Charlie is a World War II Veteran, having served overseas in France, Holland and Germany with the Calgary Highlanders.
He had retired from the School Board where he was employed as Janitor at Port Hood Consolidated School for eighteen years.
He was a member of St. Peter’s Parish, Port Hood, for over sixty-five years. In recent years he attended St. Joseph’s Parish, Glencoe Mills, where he was born and grew up.
Resting in the Port Hood and Area Resting Place on Sunday, January 28, 2017, with visitation from 2-8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be offered Monday at 11 a.m. from St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Port Hood with Rev. Charles Cameron presiding, burial in the Parish Cemetery at a later date.
Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peters Cemetery Fund, Port Hood or St. Joseph’s Parish, Glencoe, or charity of your choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Green’s Funeral Home, 507 Bernard St., Port Hawkesbury.
