It is with great sadness that we, the family of Thomas ‘Tommy’ Sampson announce his passing on February 12, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in New Waterford on April 5, 1951, he was the son of the Andrew and Mary (MacKenzie) Sampson.
Tommy worked for the Cape Breton Development Corp, first at the Central Shop, Glace Bay, and later underground at Phalen and Prince mines. He was a member of the New Waterford Knights of Columbus and he volunteered his time at Maple Hill Manor as well as the New Waterford Horseshoe Club.
He is survived by his wife, Irene (Swayze); daughter, Patricia (Roger); son, Tommy (Jacqueline); grandchildren, J.J and Victoria Hogan and their father, Jamie Hogan, Tyler and Lylah Rae; brothers, Alfie (Sharon), Bert (Eleanor), Raymond (Janette), Charlie (Lorna), and sister-in-law, Emily Sampson.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his sister, Patricia Burton; brothers, Andrew ‘Brother’, Joey, and two brothers in infancy.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 10 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, New Victoria followed by a luncheon at the K.O.C Plummer Ave., all are welcome.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 902-862-7500.
Donations in the memory of Tommy can be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the C.B. Regional Hospital.
