Florence Jean Blackmore Pike

Florence Jean Blackmore Pike

Date de naissance : 6 septembre 1926

Date de décès : 18 février 2018

With sadness in our hearts but with great gratitude for her long and happy life, we announce the peaceful passing of Flo Pike on Sunday, February 18th, embraced in the arms of her loving children. Flo was born to Captain William and Annie Blackmore in Brooklyn, New York and she was blessed to be raised by them in Port Union, NL, along with her cherished siblings Frances, Wilfred, Adeline, Bill and Joan. Her early life was shaped by the closeness of family, the great character and spirit of outport NL, and her belief that life was an adventure to be embraced and explored. She did so intentionally, with her characteristic strong will and optimism and she forged deep and lasting friendships during her rich and full 91 years. For the entire 64 years of marriage with her husband John, their home was welcoming, their life together was bountiful and they took great joy in sharing their many blessings. Their children are grateful to have learned much from Flo, especially about love and support for family and friends. Her warmth, nurturing and guidance seeded many loving relationships that lasted a lifetime. She is predeceased by her parents, her soul mate, protector and loving husband, John Powell Pike, P Eng., and her siblings Frances Hill, Wilfred Blackmore, Adeline Talmage and Bill Blackmore. Lovingly and forever remembering her are her children Janine (Brian Vallis), Valerie Pike, Patti Pike (David Chiasson), grandchildren Kate Vallis (Chris Clarke), Jay Vallis and John Vallis and great-grandchildren Elliott and Olivia Clarke, as well as her loving sister Joan Blackmore Thistle, sisters-in-law Phyllis Blackmore, June Blackmore and Flora Pike, brother and sister-in-law Frank and Betty Pike, nieces and nephews and a wonderful circle of friends, including her dear lifelong friends Shirl Gosse Rose and Ellen Dawe. The Pike family is particularly and forever grateful to Margaret Thornhill, Lucy Branton and Colleen Organ, whose loving care and unparalleled dedication to Flo knew no bounds and who enabled her contentment and comfort for many years. We also are thankful to the wonderful staff of the Caribou Veterans Pavilion who provided exceptional care and showered Flo with warmth and kindness. Our thanks as well to Dr. Debbie Callahan-Dyer and Dr. Michelle Levy for their professional support and for the compassion they extended to our family. We are grateful to you all. Cremation has taken place. Relatives and friends may visit the family at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Tuesday, February 20th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A service of remembrance will be held at St. James United Church on Wednesday, February 21st, at 2 p.m. Interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery Field of Honour. In Flo’s memory, a donation to a charitable organization dear to your heart will be appreciated. To send a message of condolence or to sign the memorial guest book please visit www.carnells.com.
