Peter Smith

We, the family of Peter Smith, sadly announce his unexpected but peaceful passing on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at the Halifax Infirmary at the age of 77. Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Robert B. and Margaret Ann (MacKay) Smith.
In his younger years, he worked in the Princess Colliery and then as a young adult he moved to Hamilton, Ontario and worked for Stelco until his retirement. Prior to his retirement he built a summer home in Englishtown and he enjoyed the time he spent there. With his wife Elizabeth, Peter enjoyed travelling the world to places in Europe, Egypt and the U.S.A. and for many years they spent their winter’s in Florida.
Peter will always be remembered for his kindness to others and his great sense of humour.
Peter is survived by his only son and best friend, Jamie (Lori) of Hamilton, ON; sisters, Peggy Audoux, Sydney Mines, Lillian McPhee, Dease Lake, BC and Janet, Sydney Mines, and brother, John, Sydney Mines.
Peter was predeceased by his parents; his beloved wife, Elizabeth (May 1, 2016); three sisters, and three brothers
A graveside service took place February 11 at Mount Hermon Cemetery, Dartmouth, officiated by the Salvation Army.
