It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife,
mother and grandmother, Eleanor (Budge) Smith, age 79, on February 20,
2018, at Buchanan Memorial Hospital, Neil’s Harbour, NS.
Born December 23, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Melvin and Blanche (Turner) Budge. Eleanor was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. She was an avid church goer and attended
St. Andrew’s Anglican Church and St. Peter's Presbyterian Church, both in
Neil’s Harbour. Eleanor worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at
the former Buchanan Memorial Hospital for over 34 years.
Eleanor is survived by her husband of 53 years, James ‘Jimmy’ Smith,
Neil’s Harbour; daughters, Melvina Smith (Steven), Frenchvale and Anne-Marie
MacLeod (Kevin), Neil’s Harbour, and brother, Gordon Budge, Neil’s
Harbour. She is also survived by her pride and joy, grandson, Dylan
MacLeod. He will always be Nanny’s special gift. Eleanor also leaves
behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, friends and childhood
friend, Dora Rogers.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Alex, George ‘Buddy’ and Allie, and sister, Marie Fraser.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the nurses of Buchanan Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion shown to Mom during her brief stay. In her words, you are “perfect, just perfect.” We would also like to thank Dr. Ken Murray, Dr. Bernie Buffett and Dr. Nicola Smith for overseeing her care with such kindness.
A celebration of Eleanor’s life will take place at St. Andrew’s Church on
Friday, February 23, 2018 at 3 p.m. with a reception to follow at the church hall. If desired, donations in Eleanor’s memory can be made to St. Andrew’s Church, Neil’s Harbour.
