On March 2, 2018 at Dryden Regional Health Centre, Dryden, Ontario. Mildred (Millie) Pound Cross of Ignace, Ontario and formerly from Hunter River, (Rennies Road) PEI lost her battle with cancer she had fought with such dignity. Dear daughter of Iona and Reagh (deceased) Pound. Millie is survived by her loving husband Kelly Cross, son, Philip (Amy), daughter Kerrie (Ryan Smith), grandchildren Kiara, Riley, Sam and Cedric, furry friends Carman and Bao. Sisters and brothers, Debby Lambe (Andy), Elizabeth (Liz) Coady (Kevin) both deceased, Raeona Pound (Claude, deceased), Allan (deceased) his wife Betty, Jamie (Mary), Janet (Craig Broome). Brothers in law, Dale Cross (Gerry), Roger Cross (Maxine) and her close P.E.I. friend Andrea Greenan who she referred to as her “chosen sister”, her “older adopted son” Fritz Fischer and his daughter, Senna from Thunder Bay. Millie was predeceased by nephews Jeff and David Lambe. Millie is survived by nieces and nephews, Craig Lambe (Rianne Carragher), Bethany, Stephen (Gabriel), Danny Coady, Jason Pound (Kara), Zack and Dylan Mailloux, Taylor Pound, Christopher and Darryl Pound, Melanie Cochrane (Brian), Raeona Macleod (Mitch), Monique Pound, Shawna Pound (Brett Harris). Millie always loved to hear what her nieces and nephews were doing and she was a source for advice if they were into a building project, or making a business or career choice. Millie’s infectious laugh and smile lit up the room. She loved spending time with her children, and above all her grandchildren. Millie’s family and friends were always very special to her and she made sure she stayed connected. She loved adventure, spending time outdoors, dogs, horses, swimming, fishing at their cabin on Raleigh Lake, peacefully canoeing various rivers with her husband, Kelly and their two dogs, or a cross country trek on a snowmobile with their friends. Millie’s culinary skills were beyond reproach and she did it all so effortlessly for her fortunate guests. She often reminded us to tell our friends who might have occasion to travel through Thunder Bay to contact her for a meal and a night’s hospitality. Her creative ability turned into a successful business when retail store operators began requesting her hand made Christmas wreaths. She even exported them to U.S. over the years. She loved to surprise her P.E.I. family with visits and every time she was on P.E.I. she would look at property with the plan to have a place near her beloved family and her old friends who she always remained close to, regardless of where she lived. The opportunity to sit around with family on P.E.I. as the guitars played and everyone sang was a special event for Millie. Anyone who spent any time with Millie heard the daily stock reports, stocks to watch and ones to avoid. She also had a keen interest and knowledge of real estate. She could talk for hours about stocks and real estate trends. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Millie also knew she didn’t hesitate to share her perspective. If Millie didn’t approve of something she didn’t hold that thought in for a second. We loved her for that and so much more. A memorial service will be held at Millie’s “happy place” at the cabin at Raleigh Lake Ontario this summer.
