We, the family of John Gregory Egan, 94, regret to announce his passing on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Sydney Mines on January 8, 1924, Greg was the son of the late George and Mary (Merrit) Egan.
Greg was a veteran of WWII, past president of the legion, and was a member of the Sydney Mines Legion Band for many years.
Greg worked for London Life for many years. He also worked at an airplane factory in Amherst, Francis Funeral Home, Corps Commissionaires at the Cape Breton Hospital, for the phone company, and in later years cared for St. Peter’s Cemetery in Sydney Mines.
He is survived by his children, George, Nancy, Patsy (Chester Wyman), Kathie (Ian Aker) and Jacqueline (John MacDonald); daughter-in-law, Barb Morrison; 13 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Greg was predeceased by his loving wife, Amelia Patricia (Davidson); his son, Leo; son-in-law, Thomas Marsh; brothers, William, Stan, Charles and Harry, and sisters, Ann and Marie.
His family will receive visitors in the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, from 1-2 p.m. A celebration of his life will take place at 2 p.m. in the funeral home, with Fr. Angus MacDougall officiating. A reception will be held at the Sydney Mines Legion after the service.
