Frances Beatrice (nee MacDonald) Purcell was born on Prince Edward Island, Lot 6, St. Anthony's Parish, the youngest of 14 children. She served in the Canadian Women's Army Corps from 1943-1945. Married in November 1945 in Vancouver, she raised six children with her husband of 59 years. Frances passed away peacefully in the presence of her loving family at the Holy Family Hospital in Vancouver on Feb. 13, 2011. Predeceased by her husband Burnet (2004), her parents Alex and Flora MacDonald, 13 brothers and sisters and her baby granddaughter Wendy. She leaves to mourn her passing her five daughters; Virginia (Heinz) Strobl, Lynda (Duncan) Cameron, Sandy (Rob) Riddett, Flora Purcell, Theresa Purcell, and her son Ed (Hazel) Purcell; 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, one great-great grandson and numerous nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated by Rev. Anthony Ho at 12:30 p.m. March 5, 2011 at St. Patrick's Parish at 12th and Main in Vancouver. Graveside committal service will be held at St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church Cemetery, Woodstock, on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 10.30 a.m. with Father Danny Wilson officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ferguson Funeral Home and Chapel, O'Leary.
