The family of Fr. Joe Gillis wish to express our sincere appreciation to those who phoned, visited, sent cards, emails, online condolences, flowers, charitable donations and food to our home. To St. Francis Xavier University for the beautiful remembrance. Thanks to Dr. Bill MacDonald and Dr. Peter Poulos for the wonderful care provided to Fr. Joe. Thanks to Bishop Brian Dunn, main celebrant and the priests of the diocese for his funeral Liturgy and our pastor Fr. Patrick O'Neil and to Fr. Joe's nephew, Fr. Martin MacDougall for delivering a beautiful homily. To the staff of Northside General Hospital and nurse, Raylene Haley, R.N. who was supportive to our family during the time of his death, thank you. To Palliative Care volunteer, Monica Shebib, your kindness to Fr.Joe will always be remembered. To the Cape Breton Regional Police, Jared Vokey and Donnie MacSween thanks for escorting us to the hospital during a storm when Fr. Joe was leaving us.
The ladies who made the beautiful afghans for Fr. Joe, thank you they were special. Special thanks to his nephews who acted as pallbearers and who delivered the readings; Knights of Columbus for the honor guard, the ladies who served a beautiful lunch during the reception, St. Joseph’s funeral choir for the beautiful music, and Jennifer Roland and Brenda Stubbert for the violin selections. Also to Alli Gillis and Josephine Young for passing out programs, you did a great job and Peter Walsh and the staff of Dooley’s Funeral Home.
