Lieu de décès : Sydney
Date de décès : 9 avril 2018

It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Anna Marie (Imrie) MacDonald, announce her peaceful passing at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Monday, April 9, 2018, with her children at her side. Anna loved life. She was a bright soul, with strong faith and deep beliefs. She enjoyed every minute life could offer and she will be dearly missed in our hearts.
Born in Florence on April 27, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Richard Imrie, an immigrant from Scotland and Naomi (Doucette) Imrie.
She grew up with six sisters and was no stranger to hard work and running a home. In her younger years, Anna worked as Assistant Manager with Sears in Sydney Mines until after her marriage and starting a family. She loved going dancing on Saturday nights with Dad and enjoyed watching Saturday Night Hockey. Her game of chance was Bingo, which she always attended until her later years. She loved a good debate on current affairs and the nightly news. Anna was a delightful and pleasant lady loved by all who knew her, always ready with a story or to lend a hand, if one was needed. She loved her family and so enjoyed her extended family of friends. She was a member of St. Stephens Parish, Florence, where she was baptized and married.
Anna is survived by Joanne (Murray) Ryan, North Sydney and Corey (Amanda), Sydney Mines; grandsons, Andrew, Fredericton, John Corey (Jessica) and Kaellum, all of Sydney Mines and one great-granddaughter, Katie-Rose, New Waterford. Anna is also survived by sisters, Betty Gracie and Kaye Squires, Sydney Mines and Naomi Imrie, Sydney; sister-in-law, Isabella MacDonald Gunn, Moncton; brothers-in-law, Bernie Tobin, Florence and Richard MacLean, North Sydney; special cousin, Matt-Sunny Doucette (Anita), Ontario, as well as many nephews and nieces.
Besides her parents, Anna was predeceased by her husband of 40 plus years, John “Sticks” Malcolm MacDonald Jr.; sisters, Barbara McLean, Shirley Tobin and Helen Gerrow; brothers-in- law, Doddy Gerrow and William Squires; as well as parents-in-law, John “Sticks” Malcolm Sr. and Euphemia (MacDougall) MacDonald; sisters-in-law, Sarah “Sally” MacDonald, Mary Evelyn MacDonald and Phyllis Oram; and brothers-in-law, Joseph "Lally" Oram and Alexander Gunn.
Joanne would like to recognize and thank her brother, Corey and Amanda, who, as our Mom’s primary caregivers, went above and beyond showing great care, devotion and love to Mom during her illness. We would also like to thank all the doctors and nurses of 4D and ICU units at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and 4 West Northside General Hospital.
Memorial donations may be made to Northside/Harbourview Hospital Foundation.
There will be no visitation. However, a celebration of Anna’s life will be held later in May, date to be announced, with burial in Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel, Sydney.
MOM… May God hold you close in his love and kindness till we meet again!
