Carol (Wood) Fraser Truro, 77, died peacefully on May 10, 2018 in the Mira Long Term Care Facility in Truro with family at her bedside. Born in Sussex, New Brunswick on December 14, 1940 to Allan and Marjorie (MacLean) Wood, she lived most of her life in Nova Scotia. Carol was a graduate of New Glasgow High School, Nova Scotia Normal College and Mount Saint Vincent University. She also held the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation. Carol was a loving wife for 57 years and mother of two sons. A strong and ambitious woman, Carol worked in teaching first Home Economics and later entrepreneurship, agricultural product promotion and, briefly, in real estate. In the early 1990s she established her own company “Dove Training and Consulting Ltd”, which focused on “Fee-For-Service” financial planning and management consulting. She was an active volunteer with the United Church, Consumers Association of Canada and Canadian Federation of University Women. Carol was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1999 and bravely underwent Deep Brain Stimulation surgery in 2010 that greatly relieved some of the Parkinson symptoms. Carol is survived by husband of 57 years, Ian; sons, Ronald (Megan Connors), Truro and Mark (Fiona Byrne), Ottawa; Granddaughters, Emily and Naomi as well as brothers, Clifton (Norma) Wood and Wayne (Thelma) Wood, a niece and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a nephew, Bert Wood. We thank the staff of The Mira for their excellent care over the past years. Thanks and gratitude to Drs. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 12th from 6 – 8pm and a funeral will be held on Sunday, May 13th at 3:30pm both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St, Truro. A private interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Society of Canada (Atlantic Chapter), Brunswick Street United Church or Durham Presbyterian Church.
