Lucie Winnifred (nee Camp) Pottie

Lucie Winnifred (nee Camp) Pottie

On May 11, 2018, our mother, Lucie Winnifred (née Camp) Pottie died in Halifax, NS. She was 98 years old. Born in Pushthrough, NL, on November 1919, she and her family immigrated to Nova Scotia from Newfoundland when she was nine years old. During her 55+-year marriage to Clarence (Clary) Pottie, she also lived in Fredericton, NB, and Montreal, QC, until they returned to Halifax once Dad retired from CBC. We, her children – Barbara (Tom) Holmes, Halifax, Stephen (Edith Larkin) Pate, Charlottetown, and Lee Ellen Pottie (Richard Lemm), Cornwall, her other son Bernard Michaud, France; and grandchildren Gabriel Pate, Laura Pottie, James and Will Pâté; Christopher Michaud (Jennifer Arsenault), Cara Michaud Dempsey (Rick), Marina Michaud Doyle (Bob); Michael Holmes (Meredith Gran), Jeremy, Sarah, and Stephen Holmes; Sarah and Adrienne Pottie; Christie-Lee and Patrick Pottie – will miss her and her macaroni and cheese, homemade bread, singing, dancing, and hugs and kisses. Her 20 great-grandchildren will miss their Super-Grandma. Her sisters Belle Barrett and Carol Harron, and countless nieces and nephews on the Camp/Lee and Pottie sides of the family will also miss her. She was predeceased by her parents William George Camp and Winnifred Maud Lee Camp Peardon, her husband Clary, her sons Brian and Kevin, her grandson Joseph, and her siblings Gordon Camp, Jean Marriott, Marjorie Smith, Eleanor Urwin, and Katherine (Kaye) Thomas. We thank the wonderful caregivers at Maplestone Enhanced Care who looked after her for the past three years. Mom had decided she wanted to live to be 100. We all speculated as to why, but only she knew. As late as August 2017, she was still dancing with the assistance of a steady arm and her walker. When we visited, she was still ready to sing whatever song was on the go. She was a devoted Jehovah’s Witness most of her adult life and will be remembered on Saturday, May 19 at 2 p.m., in a memorial service at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 210 Parkland Avenue, Halifax.
