Margaret Jean MacDonald

Date de naissance : 12 avril 1937

Date de décès : 24 mai 2018

With broken hearts, we share news of the peaceful passing of Margaret Jean, age 81, Meadow Road, Cape Breton, Thursday, May 24 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born at North Gut April 12, 1937, she was the beloved daughter of Philip and Nellie (MacLeod) MacEachern.
Left behind to miss and remember Margaret, daughter and son-in-law, Cathy MacDonald Cohoon and Gordie Cohoon; daughter, Donna; cherished grandson, Finn; sister and brother-in-law, Christene and Douglas Urquhart; son-in-law, Tom MacDonald; sister, Betty Gimler; sister-in-law and brother-in law, Karen and Michael Mellett; special lifelong friend, Diane MacEachern; nieces, Linda and Phyllis MacLeod, and Katie and Nora Mellett; nephews, John MacEachern and Paul, Bruce, and Eric Gimler.
We are smiling through tears, thinking of the many memories she created for us and the wonderful life she lived.
As a teacher in Baddeck, North Shore and North River, she touched many young lives.
As a daughter, sister, mom, wife, aunt, cousin, and friend – she loved and was loved by so many. Then came the role she had waited for and played better than anyone else – “Dear” Grammie.
She was a devoted member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, a lifelong member of the MacLeod AMS, and found great joy as a choir member. Over her lifetime, she cooked many a ham and apple crisp for the church suppers she loved to attend.
She was a member of the North Shore and District Firewomen’s Association, and had a lot of fun playing crib and 45’s at the fire hall. She was a lifelong Liberal (perhaps with a slight intermission during her early years of marriage!). She was an ardent Blue Jays fan, enjoyed fiddle music, looked forward to the arrival of the hummingbirds and lobster season, and loved to share a cup of tea. For the past 14 years, she found great joy in doing almost anything her dear grandson Finn asked.
Gone too soon, now waiting for her, husband, Finlay; parents, Philip and Nellie; brothers, Johnny, Philip and Kenny; sister-in-law, Norena Beaupre; close friend, Donna (MacEachern) Frizzell; and nephew, Bobby Gimler.
Thanks to the many neighbours and loved ones who enabled Margaret to continue living at home. Without the devotion of Douglas and Christene, it would have been impossible.
Huge thanks to the angels on earth who nurse in palliative care at Cape Breton Regional. And our neighbor Barbara MacRae, who found Mom and stayed with her until she was settled into hospital.
Visitation is from 2 – 4 and 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. on Monday, May 28 at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, North River, followed by the funeral at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29, led by Rev. Corrie Stewart.
Burial will immediately follow at Riverside Cemetery, with tea served back at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Autism Nova Scotia, or anywhere you can make a difference.
