Elsie Marion DeBay Robinson

DeBay Robinson, Elsie Marion, 53, Londonderry. It is with great sadness and broken hearts we announce the sudden passing of Elsie on Monday, April 23, 2018 as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Born in Truro, she was a daughter of the late Aubrey and Marion Robinson. As a teenager Elsie started working at East Mountain Golf course with her father and brother where she worked for over 20 years. Growing up on a farm, Elsie loved being around animals. This love has been shared with many since becoming the Animal Control Officer for the Municipality of Colchester. Elsie worked around the clock for 14 years. When she inherited a system where animals were commonly put down after being seized, she became a voice for the voiceless forcing change and implementing a system resulting in very few animals being euthanized. Elsie worked a partnership with other animal rescue organizations over the years for fostering, adoption, fundraising, and whatever was needed for an animal or a friend. Elsie enjoyed the antique car shows with Kirk that took them to PEI each summer, and snowmobiling with family and friends and numerous road trips with Gerika, her side kick. There is a Facebook group called #becauseofelsie where you can find hundreds of stories about the animals she has helped. She will be greatly missed by many.
She is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Kirk DeBay; brother Lester (Mildred) Robinson; sister Ethel (Jerry) Turner; step-children Anastasia (Rodney) Muise, Mark (Amy) DeBay; her special niece Gerika Turner; grandchildren Chelsey, Riley, Morgan, Donovan, Haley, Andrea, Aaron & Brooklyn.
She is predeceased by her stepson Kirk Lorenzo DeBay.
Arrangements are under the direction of Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. No visitation by request. Funeral service will take place on Saturday, June 16 at 1 pm in First United Church, 711 Prince Street, Truro. Rev. Valerie Kingsbury will officiate with a reception to follow in the church hall. Family burial will follow in Mahon Cemetery, Great Village. Family flowers only. Donation in memory may be made to the Animal Rescue Collation or Hope for Wildlife. Private messages of condolence may be sent to the family by viewing Elsie’s obituary on-line and selecting "Send A Condolence" at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com
