Obituary
Robert King

It is with great sadness the family of Robert (Bob) King, age 82, announce his passing at Bonnew’s Home on May 30, 2018. Born March 20, 1936, originally from Hickman’s Harbour Random Island, Bob was the son of the late Ralph & Myra King. Bob is survived by Margaret, his wife of 57 years, daughters Beverley King (Lyndon), Lisa Abbott (Eddie), Jennifer King; sons Greg (Paula) and John (Desiree); grandchildren Russell Bursey, Robyn Bowering, Blair Bursey, Riley King, Jonah Richard, Jake Abbott, Rebecca King, Ryan King, Gabriel King, Blake King; great grandson Oliver Bursey; twin brother Bill (Ruth) and sister Ruby Kelly. All who knew Bob agree he was a kind gentleman who worked hard and above all loved his family. In the 1970’s, Bob formed King’s Jewellery, and with his wife by his side, built this family business into one which was recognized and respected throughout the industry. Bob worked in the store with passion and enjoyment until age 70, when he broke his neck in a fall which subsequently necessitated closure of the business. Despite his neck injury, Bob continued on as a dedicated member of community groups and on his 82nd birthday, Bob was presented with a 50 year service award from the Gander Masonic Lodge. Though slight in stature and quiet by nature, Bob had incredible strength of character and morals. His dry sense of humor, wit and optimism helped him through 15 years of various life threatening sicknesses, with Margaret as his caretaker throughout it all. Bob’s integrity and eternal optimism inspire his children, grandchildren and many who knew him to face life’s challenges with a positive attitude and without complaint.
Bob’s family would like to thank the staff of James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre, Bonnews Home, Dr. Dicks, Dr. Ojo and Dr. Hickey for their kindness and care they provided our dad/husband throughout his illnesses, especially over the past 3 months. Bob is rested at Stacey’s Funeral Home, Gander. The funeral service was held on Saturday, June 2nd at St. Martin’s Anglican Cathedral in Gander. Interment All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to the Shriner's Patient Transportation Fund. Arrangements entrusted to Stacey's Funeral Home.
