Theresa Florence MacLean, 86, of Barrachois Harbour, formerly of Sydney Mines, most recently of the Miners Memorial Manor, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 2, 2018 surrounded by her loving and devoted family. Born December 18, 1931 in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the Late Margaret (Tutty) and Richard Vickers.

Theresa devoted her life to her parents, husband, children, grandchildren and in most recent years, her great-grandchildren. You could be sure to find Theresa in church every Sunday. If not at church, you could find her on a shopping trip, away at a cottage or on a beach in some tropical paradise, usually Barbados, where her and Roy spent much time with some great friends whom she adored. She loved her time away for some well-deserved rest, and often spoke of her experiences. Nanny Theresa spent more time in the kitchen then anywhere else, preparing the most delicious meals and baked goods for those she loved dearly and was very well known for her cups of tea, meat and rabbit pies and plum loaf. She welcomed everyone into her home with open arms and refused to allow them to leave without a full belly, and some lovely baked surprises for the road. When her company left, she would be back in the baking bowl preparing and cooking for her next round of visitors.
Theresa loved her early morning strolls in Long Island with friends and being in the fields with her sisters picking blueberries, for her next amazing blueberry pie. Family was everything to Theresa. She spent more time hosting family gatherings and events. She cooked, served and cleaned without a single complaint. Any reason to gather her children, her siblings, her grandchildren and even great grandchildren, she was there. She loved everyone, taught us all many things including to be kind, forgiving, faithful, compassionate and courageous. Theresa spoke no ill words toward or of anyone. She was the true definition of a lady.
We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to Dr. Eugene Ignacio for the care he provided for Mom over the years. She truly appreciated you. Thank you so much. Lastly, to the management and all staff of the Miners Memorial Manor. Words could never truly express how deeply appreciative we are of the kindness, love, compassion shown and the care you have given ‘Nanny’ over the past three years and during her final hours. We could never have chosen a better second family for our beloved Mom. She loved all of you, even in her last days, your voices triggered her response. So, thank you again, from the bottom of our hearts, for providing the best for the best. You are all angels in disguise.
Cremation has taken place, and a private family only service will take place at J.M. Jobes Funeral Home in Sydney Mines, NS. A celebration of her life and interment will take place in summer when her family from away can attend and will be announced at a later date. All family and friends will be welcome.
Online condolences can be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mom’s memory can be made to the Miners Memorial Manor, or the Northside Hospital Foundation.
“God looked around his garden,
And found an empty place,
He then looked down upon the earth
And saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you,
And lifted you to rest.
God’s garden must be beautiful,
He always takes the best.”
