Kathleen Olive ‘Ollie’ MacAulay

The daughters of Kathleen Olive ‘Ollie’ MacAulay regret to announce her passing on Saturday, June 9, 2018 in Celtic Court, Sydney. Born in Sydney on March 1, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Jessie (Ferguson) MacKeigan and step-mother Ann MacKeigan.
Ollie was a resident of Tartan Lane at Celtic Court for the past few years. Up until the onset of dementia, Ollie was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Senior Choir, John Geddie AMS, Friendship Guild, Ladies Thursday Morning Bible Group, and one of the founders of Ladies Exercise Classes at Bethel Hall. She was a CGIT member, a member of the Presbyterian Young Peoples Society and traveled with the Cavalcade Choir. She also helped with the idea of a ground level room for the church hall, which led to the construction of the Shaw Room.
Ollie is survived by her daughters, Lynn (Harold) Gillespie, Carol (Glenn) MacLeod, Jean (Wayne) Martin and Ann Margaret (Jim) Swayne; grandchildren, Bradley (Angie) Gillespie, Jean Gillespie, Adam (Jennifer) MacLeod, Katie (Wayne) Fraser, Richard (Chelsey) MacLeod, Christopher Martin, Tracey Martin, Haley Swayne and Ruth Ann Swayne; great granddaughters, Madison, Reese, Paige, and great-grandson, Theo MacLeod. Also survived by her lifelong friend, Flossie MacLean.
Ollie was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, William ‘Toss’ MacAulay, and infant grandson, David Thomson.
Visitation will take place Monday, June 11, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Sydney Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 12 in Bethel Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. with Rev. Bob Lyle officiating. Interment will be held in Oakfield Cemetery.
Memorials in Ollie’s memory may be made to Bethel Presbyterian Church or a charity of choice.
Special thanks to the staff of Celtic Court for your care and compassion and also Carol, James, Crystal and Sheila, who enabled Dad and Mom to stay at home as long as they did.
