Mary ‘Elaine’ Morrison

It is with broken hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of Elaine, 76; a gentle, caring and loving woman. After a brief illness and with family by her side on Monday, July 9, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Elaine passed away peacefully. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late William and Madeline May.
Elaine was a wonderful lady who loved being surrounded by family and friends for birthdays, holidays and special occasions always bringing her baking, especially her Skorbar squares. Elaine’s family was the most important part of her life and she was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was at her happiest whenever we were all around.
She enjoyed trying her luck at the casino where she met and became friends with many people over the years. She shared her family’s passion of harness racing and was inducted to the CB Horse Owners Assn Ladies Hall of Fame in 2010 and looked forward each summer to her trip to PEI for Old Home Week.
Elaine will also be missed by her friends at “The Loop” gym in New Waterford where she spent many of her mornings.
She will be sadly missed by Danny, her husband and best friend of 54 years; son, Glen (Carrie) and their children Leah (Michael Edmonds), Laura and Erin; daughter, Lisa (Harold LeBlanc Jr) and their children Brett and Robyn, and daughter, Terri Morrison (Gerard Kennedy), as well as her “second son”, Robbie Campbell (Susan) and their boys Owen and Jaxon. She also loved dearly her three great-grandchildren, Maria, Brendan and Elizabeth Edmonds. Elaine was also like a mother to Sheldon Whitty and will be sadly missed.
Elaine is also survived by her sisters, Shirley Dawson, Glace Bay and Norma (Dave Curran), Sydney, and brothers, John (Kay) May, Glace Bay and Bill (Nancy) May, Ontario. She was also loved and will be missed by brother-in-law, Fred Junior (Barbara) Morrison; sister-in-law, Cathy (Blaize) Toomey, all of Gardiner Mines; brothers-in-law, Alex Morrison, Ontario, Kevin (Verna Bailey), Catalone and Fraser Turnbull, Dominion, along with many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Besides her parents, Elaine was predeceased by her sister, Brenda Campbell; brother-in-law, Jack Dawson- mother and father-in-law, Fred and Annie Mae Morrison, and sisters-in-law, Helen Turnbull and Irene Morrison.
Family will receive visitors at TJ Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay on Friday, July 13, 2018 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Private family ceremony and interment to take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton.
