We regret to announce the passing of our dear wife, mother, sister and friend, Patricia Marlene MacLean, age 65, on Monday, July 16, 2018 at Saint Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish NS.
Born July 1, 1953 in North Sydney NS, she was the daughter of the late Michael Gabriel and Sarah Alvina (Johnson) Young.
Marlene lived in Toronto ON, Thunder Bay ON, Calgary AB, Edmonton AB, Auckland, New Zealand, Sydney Mines NS, Stellarton NS and finally Port Hawkesbury NS. She was successful at many occupations: banking, compensation adjudication, accounting and as an entrepreneur. She always found time to give back to community through school committees, church organizations and religious education, especially giving her time to assist individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Marlene was a dedicated wife and a creative mother who took great pride in caring for her family – stepping aside from her career to raise her children. Her wit, wisdom and great sense of humour will be greatly missed.
Marlene is survived her husband, Peter Lean MacLean; her son, MacKenzie James, Port Hawkesbury NS and her daughter, Sarah Catherine, Dartmouth NS.
She is also survived by four sisters, Sharon (Archie) Forrestall, Mulgrave, Beverly (Doug) Currie, Dartmouth, Bernice Masters, Dartmouth, Charmaine (Victor) Sakalauskas, Dartmouth; two brothers, Greg (Chris) Oshawa ON and Grant of Peterborough ON.
She was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Michael.
As per Marlene's wishes, there will be no visitation or memorial service. She has donated her remains to scientific study. In lieu of a formal service, Marlene asked that you consider providing a “random act of kindness” – a simple, kind gesture that will help make someone else’s day.
