It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Jim Strang of Howie Centre. Jim passed away Sunday, July 29, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Glace Bay, Jim was the son of the late Robert and Isabel (Poulain) Strang.
Jim was a dedicated and beloved husband and father. His friendly face was a fixture of the Atlantic Superstore in Sydney River for the past 15 years. He took joy and pride in his time spent gardening, woodworking and taking photographs. Later in his life he enjoyed several trips abroad and, when closer to home, kept an eye on the goings-on of the Toronto Blue Jays and the residents of Coronation Street. His love of life always shone through in his enjoyment of music and sharing laughter with friends and family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth; son, Devon (Sidney), Charlottetown; daughter, Schoel (Eric), Halifax; brothers, Ken (Pat), Halifax, Bill (Terry), Halifax; sister, Betty (Merrill), Sydney; cherished grandchildren, Carver and Jemima Strang, and much-loved nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother, Donnie.
Funeral service for Jim will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 2 at T.W Curry Parkview Chapel at 755 George St., Sydney. Interment in St. James Parish Cemetery, Gardiner Mines. Reception to follow at the Pensioner Hall in Gardiner Mines.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s memory to St. James Parish Cemetery, Gardiner Mines, or a charity of one’s choice.
