Catherine Charlotte Ripley McNabb

Catherine Charlotte Ripley McNabb

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Catherine McNabb, 88, of Glace Bay on Monday, July 30, 2018. Kay lived her whole life in Glace Bay. Kay fell in love with her High School sweetheart, D’arcy McNabb. They were soul mates that married on August 10, 1955. The love they shared was as strong today as it was in 1955. Last August they had celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.
Kay graduated from Normal College in 1949 with her teaching diploma. It was the start of a tremendous career as an educator. Her extraordinary talent as an artist was recognized and she became an Art Consultant for the Glace Bay School System. Kay had an innate ability to connect to her students, motivating them to express themselves through the medium of art.
Kay was devoted to Knox United Church and gave tirelessly to her church and community. One special project that was dear to her heart was mentoring young girls in the Canadian Girls in Training Program (CGIT). She believed in helping young girls become strong, confident women.
Kay and D’arcy loved walking and would often be seen at the Old Airport Road. Kay enjoyed sewing, taking pictures and gardening. She loved children and dogs and they loved her. Kay’s smile, kindness, grace and compassion would light up a room. She will be missed greatly by all who’s lives she touched.
Kay was predeceased by her husband, D’arcy; brothers, Byron Ripley and his wife, Enid, Donnie Ripley and his wife, Anne, Laun Ripley; sister, Shirley McKerron and her husband, Don; parents, Laun and Agnes (Ferguson) Ripley; step-mother, Mamie (Ferguson) Ripley; many aunts and uncles and her grandparents.
She is survived by an uncle Gordon MacPherson, nieces and nephews, Joan Ripley, Donna Brown, Brian Ripley, Brenda Ripley, Gordon Ripley, Mary Ripley, Colin Ripley, Janet Armstrong, Robert Ripley, Susan Carlton, Ross McKerron, Elizabeth Huff, Scott McKerron, Kari Tuck, Sheila DeRooy and special friend Mary Stairs.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Patten Funeral Home. Funeral service will take place on Saturday, August 18, 2018, at 10 a.m. in Knox United Church. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorial donations can be made to Parkinson’s Canada, Canadian Diabetes Association, Knox Church or a charity of your choice. On-line condolences may be made to the family at www.Pattenfuneral.com.
Special thanks to the staff of Seaview Manor, Margie Blue, Harry Reid, Carmella Morrison, Darlene Nearing, Blanche and Edward Murrant and Steven and Margot O’Leary.
